Why we built Pitlamp
Pitlamp started as a tool built by an IT professional to answer one question every morning: what needs my attention today?
The answer was scattered across spreadsheets, inboxes, shared drives, vendor websites and status pages. Pitlamp brings the team’s work and the health of the estate into one place, ranks what matters most, and turns it into work a team can actually finish.
Why we called it Pitlamp
In British coal mines, every shift started with the same routine. Within the two hours before work began, a deputy inspected the workings and tested the air for gas with a flame safety lamp. Nobody went underground until the district was reported safe.
At the lamp room, each miner handed over a numbered brass lamp check in exchange for his lamp. The checks on the board showed exactly who was underground, and the lamp room kept every lamp maintained and ready for the next shift. From 1913 the check system was required by law.
Those routines kept people safe for generations, and they’re the same three habits a good IT team relies on today.
